10 Reasons to Tidy

10 Reasons to Tidy

Tidying is something that many people do automatically, while others – like me – are naturally messy. Maybe some reasons to start a spring-clean will help you get in gear! Also, there are some gifs in here to encourage you. Go ooon!

There are tonnes of articles out there offering you tips for tidying, ways to do it fast and how to keep it tidy forever. But as a messy person, I know that for me it’s the motivation I’m lacking. Stuff gets messy quick, and it stresses me out. When I’m stressed I lack motivation, which leads to me not wanting to tidy.

Oh how the tables turn once it is tidy. I feel like a weight has been lifted and I can rule the world! Okay, maybe that’s a little excessive, but I definitely feel more productive.

Unfortunately for me, this is a cycle: Mess, tidy, mess, tidy… But I’d like to change things up so I don’t have to tidy so much. This post is to help me if not anybody else realise the reasons to start spring cleaning – and not just obvious ones like ‘my Mum is coming round’!

Reasons to Tidy

1. Tidy house, tidy mind.

I definitely find this to be true, when my house is less cluttered, so is my mind. I am more relaxed and don’t have anything physical stressing me out.

2. A more sociable space

For some people their messy house can act as a hindrance when it comes to socialising. You may get embarrassed and not invite people over as often as you might like to.

3. You’ll be able to find stuff!

If you keep everything spic and span, you are much more likely to know where everything is. You’ll find it easier to find that rubber or hole punch when you need it, or you’ll know which of your favourite clothes are in the wash.

4. Your space will be clean

If you haven’t got piles of stuff everywhere and random objects sitting around, you’ll be able to keep everything wiped and dusted. I’m not saying you don’t already, but you will be able to do it more regularly and easily.

5. Aesthetics

10 reasons to tidy

Your house or room will always look its best when it is tidy. That feeling when you move somewhere new and everything is minimalist and tidy – you can get close to that! I say close as I know many of us have more personal effects than can be seen in typical home ‘goals’ pictures. Homely isn’t bad, your house is allowed to look lived in. It’s just good to have a spring clean and get rid of some of those ‘things that may come in useful later’.

6. Less time cleaning

If you keep everything tidy and only have to wipe surfaces and dust now and then, you will have to clean less. I mean, you wont have to spend ages doing it all at once. Do the dishes as and when you use them, and you’ll have less jobs later on.

7. Less hazards

If you have a tidy home, less things will be lying around for clumsy people (like me) to trip over. It will be a safer place for everyone!

8. No infestations

Especially if you live in an old building, you will likely hear mice in the walls. This is pretty normal! But you don’t want them in the rooms! If you leave things dirty, or there is food lying around too long open to the air, you are more likely to attract them to find their way in.

9. Pride

Your home, room or workspace should be something you are proud of. It should be a place you enjoy being in, and are happy to invite other people into.

10. You look sophisticated

If none of the other reasons are good enough, then just think how together you will feel. This is just one small step on your journey to being completely in charge of your life!

Are you going for the whole minimalism thing, or do you love your homely clutter?

Motivation (or lack thereof) is my main reason for not tidying, too! This post is a fun way of looking at it differently and maybe getting myself to finally do what needs to be done. I think especially #6 is what’s going to get me going – if I do it now, I’ll have less to worry about later! And #10 can’t hurt either.

These are all amazing reasons to tidy! I really agree with the first one – unfortunately, I’m a big hoarder, and it stresses me out so much when I try to find something and I can’t! I really feel like less is more, and when there is just less clutter lying around I feel at ease.

I love this post! I completely agree with them all, I am moving out this year soo there’s going to be a complete spring clean of my room, getting rid of a lot of stuff that I don’t actually need that I’ve been holding on to.

I was doing that today! The spare room fills up with stuff you think you’ll use later but never do!
