My Month in Blog Posts – September + My Slump

Here’s the lowdown of how September went for me blog-wise. It was a hard month for me, but I have a plan!

I’m kinda scared to write this post… It’s like admitting to a personal failure. September was a very unsuccessful month for my blog in my eyes. Well, maybe unsuccessful is a little harsh. It just wasn’t a very productive month as I only wrote three posts. Yep. Three. Considering I posted 8 or 9 times in July and about 7 times in August, that was a big thing for me.

I’ve been in a bit of a funk over the past few weeks; unmotivated; low on energy; low on self-esteem. This made me pretty unhappy.

 

Getting out of the ‘Slump’

I am determined that October will be a better month. I have taken some steps to make sure that I at least feel a bit better! I will be sad if I don’t write more than three posts this month, but at the end of the day I need to make sure I am feeling on better form emotionally.

So, one of the first steps towards a more productive ‘me’ was purchasing some Matcha Green Tea. (I got mine from Teapigs.) Matcha is basically green tea in powder form, but super concentrated.

Matcha contains caffeine, so if you are sensitive to it I would avoid it or give it a trial before consuming it on a regular basis. It is more effective than your afternoon coffee (and gives you 3 times the energy boost of an Espresso) as it gives you the boost without the slump. I’m hoping the Matcha will get me feeling more energetic and motivated. Now I just need to get myself feeling psyched up again. I hope to do more exercise as well, and matcha is meant to boost your calorie burning abilities if consumed before exercising – which can never be a bad thing!

I am going to try to plan things further ahead, in my head anyway. Like what blog post I want to write next. If I do this I will get more excited about doing it and end up doing it sooner – rather than waiting ’til I have some free time and sitting looking at the blank screen, the pulsing cursor and getting writer’s block.

I may not have written many blog posts this month, but I have been a lot more successful in some other aspects. I have:

  • Bought presents for my Boyfriend’s birthday ( I cannot wait to see him open them)
  • Bought presents for my Mum for Christmas
  • Invested in a lighter hoover (exciting, I know)
  • Grown my Twitter following from about 300 to over 800

I am so unbelievably proud of myself for reaching this many followers in such a short time. As I wasn’t being as productive, I felt like I needed to do something to make sure I stayed connected with the blogging world. I joined in with lots of twitter chats. I would of done this anyway, but I did it a lot more than I probably would have. This cheered me up a lot. People in the blogging community are so kind and cheered me up so much. 1. Creativity: Blog Images, Tools and Props by Ndongo

This is a lovely, short post which gives some great tips for really making your photos pop. She also points out that you don’t necessarily have to have an expensive camera or anything, which is pretty reassuring to me as I use the camera on my phone! Also, her photography is enviable.

2. Beauty: My Golden Eye Obsession by Francesca Louise

I’m gonna start off by saying how much this girl has helped me this month. She might not even remember it, but we had a quick chat on twitter at a point where I was feeling particularity down and she seriously cheered me up! She also happens to have such an awesome blog. The makeup routine demonstrated in this post is gorgeous, and the marble-backed photos are truly gorgeous.

3. Beauty on a Budget – W7 Colour Me Buff Review by Being Soph

I LOVE budget buys. Makeup revolution palettes are some of my favourites at the moment as they are just so affordable. They are especially useful as I am still enjoying experimenting with eyeshadow, and I don’t feel like I am wasting the product with these because of the cost. The pigmentation of these shadows look amazing, I definitely want to get my hands on some W7 shadows. Soph shows some great photos of the palette and especially useful swatches.

4. A Massive Boots Haul! by Steph

Now I am a sucker for hauls. I see a haul on youtube and it will be the next on my to-watch list. This is no exception, especially as it is a Boots haul which means I could easily shop anything I saw and wanted as Boots is available in the UK. Yasss! Soap and Glory, Nyx and Liz Earle; this is a girl after my own heart!

5. Ends and Beginnings by Maria Neto

This girl has only been blogging for a couple of weeks, maybe less than that! I’d just love it if you could go over to her blog and have a read, she is doing so well already – but I think it is still important to encourage people when they are starting out. I found blogging such an intimidating thing to start doing as there are so many high profile bloggers, I felt I could never really fit in. But just because you have less followers or your name isn’t printed on your own cosmetics line, doesn’t mean you aren’t doing a great job. This post is a gorgeous post about being happy with being you, and doing what you want to do. It was perfect reading for me when I was feeling down.

    I totally know the feeling. The last 2 months I’ve had the lack of energy some days when it comes to posting and I don’t want to post something below my standard (I did it twice… and I’m still miserable about it) It really does feel like a failure when you know what you wanted to do, even if you didn’t commit it to anyone else. But a deep breath and a refocus helps so much. And I love matcha!! 😀

        I really like it mixed with whipped cream to dip fruit into, or even as a butter sauce with chicken (sounds unhealthier than it is), but matcha mug cake with dark chocolate? (especially changing out applesauce to replace oil) is so unbelievably delicious. And amusingly green. 😀 I’m bad at drinking it but I go through a decent amount adding it to food and it seems to have the same effects.

            That’s what I’ve been doing! I read in the reviews originally (I got a bag of it free to test) that it’s good with all things dairy to balance out the grassyness. Seems to be working so far 😀

    Don’t worry about it at all and don’t be too hard on yourself! I took a 4 month break from blogging just a month after I first started because it’s so easy to let everything get on top of you; whenever you have some time just try to write posts in bulk if you can & that might make it easier to upload more – hope this helps! Also, congratulations on growing your Twitter following so well, that’s amazing!! You’ll be sure to hit 1000 followers this month! Great post and thanks for sharing xx

    More than writing posts you should focus on being happy and healthy and doing what you love! It’s ok to have bad days or weeks or months as long as you are motivated to find happiness again, and this is something I feel really strong about! You are doing great and have been so lovely to me!       Yes, I agree! I am really working on myself right now. My blogging is essentially an extra thing for me to enjoy when I’m not working or studying, it should never become a chore. Having a break from it reminded me how much I enjoyed doing it and why I started it in the first place. You’re welcome, I am always here for you!
