Love Me Beauty subscription review: June 2016

Love Me Beauty subscription review: June 2016

Here I review the items I received in June from my first Beauty subscription service: Love Me Beauty. If you want to read more about how the subscription service actually works then please read my other post: Love Me Beauty subscription: How it works (This will help you understand what I mean when I talk about ‘credits’ in this post.)

I’ve been tempted by so many different beauty boxes out there, especially Birchbox (£10+£2.95 P&P/month) and Glossybox (£10+£3.25 P&P/month). However, I am one for reading up on stuff a lot before parting with my money and I read many reviews about both boxes saying that after a couple of months people are drowning in hand and body lotions. I do like to discover new things, but I think I’d end up finding constant lotions pretty boring…variety is the spice of life after all! That said, beauty boxes change all the time, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out to see what kind of items are featured in future boxes. Who knows, you may see me reviewing them soon enough!

I stumbled across Love Me Beauty in my search for my first beauty box. It turns out that it’s not actually a box, as the items are sent in a makeup bag of their own brand (LMB). It’s also different from the likes of Glossybox or Birchbox  as it’s a beauty subscription which allows you to choose what you want to receive each month rather than getting a random assortment of items. For some people I guess this would make it a less exciting experience, but for me, knowing that I really, really wanted to try out the stuff that I had ordered had me daydreaming about opening the box and trying all the stuff out! SO EXCITING!

LMB Neon Pink Blending Sponge (20 credits)

I haven’t tried many makeup sponges, as I lost my Real Techniques one after only a couple of uses and can’t remember how it compares to this one. This sponge works perfectly for me though, it doesn’t hold too much moisture and works perfectly to blend my concealer and foundation in. I do find it picks up quite a lot of the product though, but that could be the same with all makeup sponges for all I know.

The only thing I found that properly cleaned it was using washing up liquid (dish soap), I guess this is because it is designed to break down grease etc. It takes all product out completely! (shown above)

Nuxe Gentle Exfoliating Gel with Rose Petals (10 credits)

This was the last item I tried as I kept forgetting to take it up to my bathroom! As you can see, this product came as a 15ml tester size (to be expected as it only cost 10 credits) which is such a shame as it is so gorgeous. However, it is a good size to see if you like the product, which I guess is what they’re going for. I’d be a bit annoyed if I got something full sized and hated it as it would be a waste so I can’t have it both ways. But I’m greedy…

Sorry, back to the product! I was so impressed with how natural this felt and it smells like roses! It exfoliates with lychee seed and Walnut shell powder, uses Rosemary water to clarify and purify, and rosewater to soothe your skin and keep it soft. The natural, gentle ingredients make it suitable for sensitive skin.

I filled the sink with hot water and let my face steam for a minute or two to open up my pores, then applied the gel sparingly (to make the tester last longer). I let it sit on my skin for a couple of minutes before exfoliating in circular motions with my fingertips and then rinsed it off. My skin felt fresh yet soothed and nice and soft afterwards and I felt like I’d treated myself!

Tangle Teezer Original (30 credits)

I already knew what Tangle Teezers were like so I knew I wanted to get one! Basically, it gets all the knots out of your hair without tugging hard or breaking any hairs – it’s magical!

Also, it’s RRP is between £8 and £9 so you’re really getting your moneys worth!

Cailyn Matte Tint in Nudist (20 credits)

The first day I wore this I was going out to a farewell do for a work-mate so it got tested in tough conditions! It has a watery consistency…it’s hard to describe, when you rub your lips on it doesn’t feel oily like a balm, or tacky like some lipsticks and glosses. This can make it a little difficult to apply accurately if you aren’t wearing a lip-liner. I might try using a very fine lip brush one day to line my lips with it first before filling in. I can’t show you a photo of it on my lips right now as I’m having a dry lip moment, but I’ll try to add some later!

The colour is a little different to how it looked in the picture on the website, it looked much more nude pink (as suggested by the shade name ‘Nudist’) but it comes out a bit more fluorescent. That’s an exaggeration but hopefully the the photo gives you an idea of what I mean. It has a stronger pink pigment than I thought it would.

Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow in Cocoa (20 credits)

So this is most definitely the FAVOURITE item I received, and is now part of my daily routine. I have almost black eyebrows but they are slightly different shapes so I use this at the arch and the tail just to neaten them up.

You unscrew the gold lid to access the gel in the tub. Then you pull the lid into two and the top part is an angled brush to apply the gel. The gel is very thick, more waxy than gel-like, and you only need to use the tiniest bit of product to get the desired effect, but if you want a clean-cut, dramatic brow you can easily build up the colour intensity until you are happy with it.

It generally sets very well, but if you forget you have it on and rub it too hard it will smudge a bit. This isn’t really a downside for me though as I haven’t had a brow product which doesn’t smudge a little yet. The RRP is about £17 so it’s incredible value for money as this one item alone exceeds the subscription price.

Total Credits: 100

Each month you are given 60 credits to spend on products of your choice from Love Me Beauty’s Boutique. I subscribed to a 3-month membership which meant I was awarded 30 extra credits for my first month. However I definitely wanted all the items I had picked which came to 100 credits so I purchased some add-on credits to make sure I could get them.

I loved everything I received and use the eyebrow gel and the makeup sponge every day, so I’m extremely happy with this subscription so far and I’m sooo excited to get July’s bag!

I’ve been so interested in subscription services. I’ve never heard of this one either. How do you like it so far?

    • July 14, 2016 / 11:00 am

Me too! I was a bit unsure about some of them recently though as so many people were receiving just lotions if you get what I mean. Some people got boxes they lived and others got ones they would only use 1 item from.

I’m loving this one so far! (I’ve only had 1 bag so far but the next one should be arriving any day so I should be reviewing it soon.) The boutique isn’t always full of pages of stuff to choose from, but it always has stuff I’m interested in. They even had a necklace on offer when I ordered my first one. And I’ve found I’ve bought add-on packages both times too as I didn’t want to miss out on certain products! Sorry for the lengthy reply 🙂

First of all, thanks for linking me to this ! The post itself is really well written and I enjoyed reading it. It’s giving me some ideas of things to try.

I like that with this box you get to choose what’s in it. I’ve tried a beauty box before and found I didn’t use half the items. Such a waste !

Again, great post and I’m looking forward to reading more ! 🙂

No worries, I thought you’d like to read about the Cailyn matte lip tint 🙂 aw thank you so much, it really means so much to me as I put quite a lot into my posts so far!

That’s exactly what I thought! I don’t want to end up with a tonne of stuff I’m not interested in. Thank you again 🙂 I’ve ordered my July bag, cannot WAIT!
